The Tallest Man-Made Structure in the World.
Known for being extravagant and opulent in many respects, Dubai exceeded even its own expectations in January 2010 with the formal opening of the Burj Dubai, the world's tallest man-made skyscraper at 2,717 feet (828 meters). The biggest state-owned development company in Dubai announced a few weeks ago that it was unable to pay its debts, thus the glory of the title was overshadowed by a harsh reality. It was therefore not shocking that the Burj Dubai was shortly renamed the Burj Khalifa, in honor of United Arab Emirates President Sheik Khalifa bin Zayed al-Nahyan, who gave Dubai $10 billion to assist in paying off its debts. People still did, despite the clear irony that the Burj Khalifa spoke for wealth in an area where it was clearly lacking people
continued to pour into the tower. Although Dubai is still facing economic challenges, the emirate is nonetheless proud to have the world's tallest occupied floor, the highest restaurant, the largest fireworks display, and the longest-traveling elevator.
