Approval of Telecom Infrastructure Sharing Framework

The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has received approval from the Federal Government for the Telecom Infrastructure Sharing Framework (TISF) it developed. The PTA collaborated with the Ministry of Information Technology and Telecommunication (MOIT) and the telecom sector in formulating the framework.

This framework establishes a regulatory mechanism enabling licensees to oversee their active and passive telecom infrastructure through a fair and competitive process. The green light for the Telecom Infrastructure Sharing Framework marks a significant stride towards fostering growth and sustainability in Pakistan's telecom sector.

The implementation of this framework is anticipated to substantially decrease the installation (CapEx) and operating costs (OpEX) of telecom infrastructure. This, in turn, will ultimately benefit consumers through cost reduction and enhanced quality. Stakeholders are expected to make collaborative efforts to implement this framework, aligning with the shared objective of developing Pakistan as a digital economy. It's worth noting that telecom infrastructure sharing involves the sharing of telecom networks and other resources, including non-electronic and physical infrastructure. The framework is accessible on the PTA website.
