Customs Uncover Rs 275 Million Duty Evasion in Fake Invoices for Vegetable Oil Imports

Express reported that Additional Director Customs Intelligence Karachi Inam Wazir disclosed large-scale under-invoicing of vegetable oil imports. Inam Wazir informed that a secret network provided information indicating that vegetable oil and its products are being imported from Indonesia.

The Directorate of Customs Intelligence has reviewed the prices of the products declared in the import documents for consignment clearance by comparing them with the price data from the relevant association and the exporting country. The investigation uncovered the under-invoicing of vegetable oil and its products from Indonesia through the use of fake invoices with lower values.

Inam Wazir stated that the importer, M/s Food Lynx International, evaded duty and tax amounting to Rs 275 million by filing four similar goods declarations in the Customs Appraisal Waste Collectorate. The importer obtained clearance for products based on fake invoices with a declared value of Rs 560 lakhs, whereas the actual value of these products exceeds Rs 820 lakhs.

Although efforts are underway to acquire the remaining original invoices, Inam Wazir confirmed that a case has been registered against the importer based on substantial evidence.
