Indian soldiers occupying the region have also injured thousands of people by firing pellets at peaceful protesters.
Indian forces, engaged in state terrorism and grave human rights violations in the illegally occupied region of Jammu and Kashmir, have caused the martyrdom of 919 children over the last 35 years. A report released today by the research department of Kashmir Media Service on the occasion of International Children's Day asserts that India's illegal occupation has disproportionately affected children. According to the report, soldiers, paramilitary forces, and police personnel have martyred a total of 96,274 people, including 919 children, since January 1, 1989.
The forces' martyrdom of civilians in the occupied territory has resulted in 107,934 children becoming orphans, according to the report. It highlights that Indian soldiers, during the suppression of peaceful protestors, caused injuries to thousands of people, including school-going boys and girls, through pellet firing. The report specifies that hundreds of individuals, such as 19-month-old Haba Jan, 4-year-old Zahra Majeed, 8-year-old Asif Rasheed, 8-year-old Aulis Ahmed, 10-year-old Asif Ahmed Sheikh, and 13-year-old Mir Arafat, lost their sight either completely or partially due to pellet firing by Indian forces. Among the thousands of affected Kashmiris, a significant number are schoolboys, as per the report.
