Government Maintains Petrol Prices, Cuts Diesel Rates, and Adjusts LPG Costs in Recent Announcement

The caretaker federal government has declared that it will maintain the current petrol price, while simultaneously reducing the prices of diesel, kerosene, and light diesel by 7 rupees per liter. Additionally, the price of LPG has seen a hike of 4 rupees per kg. The Ministry of Finance has issued a notification confirming the implementation of these new petroleum product prices from the night, asserting that the petrol price will remain constant for the next 15 days.

Post the announcement of the revised prices, petrol is now priced at Rs 134.28 per litre. Conversely, the price of high-speed diesel has experienced a decrease from Rs 296.71 to Rs 289.71 per litre, kerosene oil has dropped from Rs 204.98 to Rs 201.16 per litre, and light diesel oil has seen a reduction from Rs 180.45 to Rs 173.93 per litre. Meanwhile, LPG has encountered a price increase of Rs 4 per kg.

The ongoing process of tariffization includes a Rs 4 per kg increment in LPG, leading to a rise in the price of domestic yellow cylinders by Rs 45 and commercial cylinders by Rs 174. The official production price of LPG has also been elevated by Rs 3,245 per metric ton.

Consequently, LPG is now available at Rs 255 per kg instead of Rs 251 per kg, domestic cylinders at Rs 3,007 instead of Rs 2,962, and commercial cylinders at Rs 1,157 instead of Rs 1,397, as stated by the Chairman of the LPG Industries Association Pakistan. The natural gas crisis has heightened nationwide, and it is suggested that, similar to LNG, LPG should be exempt from taxes.
