Political Exodus: Notable Figures Exit 2024 Election Race, Opening Doors for New Generations

Many prominent figures in politics have withdrawn from the 2024 election race, including former prime ministers, federal ministers, and ex-members of the National Assembly. Approximately five hundred politicians have cited health issues, dissatisfaction with the current political situation, and various other reasons for not submitting nominations for the general elections. Consequently, the path for young generations to engage in parliamentary politics has been cleared.

Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain, the Q-League chief and former Prime Minister, Asfand Yaroli, the ANP president, and senior PPP leader Ghous Bakhsh Mehr are among those not participating in the elections. However, their sons are actively involved in the political arena. Former Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi has publicly announced his decision not to contest the election, expressing discontent with the current political system and raising concerns about a level playing field.

Other notable figures, such as Javed Hashmi, Miftah Ismail, Jamal Laghari, Rai Mujtabi Kharl, Hamid Nasir Chatta, Imran Ismail, Sameer Amlik Asad Umar, Mian Shafiq, Ali Zaidi, Amjad Niazi, Sadaqat Abbasi, Nusrat Sahar, Ali Nawaz Awan, Mayza Hameed, Mahnaz Aziz, Ishrat Ashraf, Manza Hasan, Ayesha Ghos Pasha, Shireen Mazari, Andalib Abbas, Rida Khan, Princess Umarzadi Towana, Ghazala Saifee, Amara Khan, Asma Qadir, Sami Bukhari, Thobia Ko Mil, and Malika Buhari have also refrained from participating in the election process. Additionally, individuals like Faisal Vawda, Khusro Bakhtiar, Musrat Jamshed Cheema, Fakhr Imam, Sardar Riaz Ahmad Khan, Nawab Yusuf Talpur, Aslam Bhutani, Mohsin Dawar, Ali Wazir, Noorul Haq Qadri, and Jamshed Cheema have chosen not to submit their nomination papers.

The political landscape underwent significant changes following the attacks on military installations, leading to a majority of politicians and officials associated with the PTI opting out of the elections due to the events in November.
