Supreme Court Upholds Election Schedule, Rejects Changes to Balochistan Constituencies

The Supreme Court has closed all avenues to delay the general elections, declaring that objections to constituencies cannot be raised once the election schedule is issued. Acting Chief Justice Sardar Tariq Masood, leading a 3-member bench, overturned the Balochistan High Court's decision to alter the constituencies in 2 provincial seats of Balochistan. The Supreme Court, upon accepting the Election Commission's appeal, emphasized that no objections can be raised on constituencies after the release of the election schedule.

In his remarks, Acting Chief Justice Sardar Tariq Masood expressed confusion about the widespread desire for a prolonged election period, urging for the elections to proceed. The Balochistan High Court had modified the constituencies of the Election Commission in the provincial seats of Shirani and Zhob, prompting the Election Commission to appeal the High Court's decision in the Supreme Court.
