Madrid Derby Showdown: Real and Atletico Battle for Supercopa Glory in Saudi Arabia

Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid are set to clash in the first Spanish Supercopa semifinal on Wednesday, with a chance to advance to the final against the winner of Barcelona versus Osasuna. 

The Derbi Madrileno, held in Saudi Arabia, marks the beginning of a series of three encounters between the fierce rivals, who are also slated to meet in the Copa del Rey and La Liga. Real Madrid, riding a five-game winning streak after their recent triumph against Arandina, aims to secure their third Supercopa title since the tournament expanded to four clubs in 2019-20 under the guidance of Carlo Ancelotti. Meanwhile, Atletico Madrid is grappling with inconsistency, having won only two of their last five matches across all competitions, including a loss to Girona, a team competing closely with Real Madrid in La Liga. As they vie for Copa del Rey and Supercopa honors, Atleti sees an opportunity to compensate for their league struggles. Additionally, defeating Real Madrid in consecutive games for the first time since 2014 would be a particularly satisfying achievement.
